COVID Marketing, the New Normal
COVID Marketing, the New Normal
We are hearing that some businesses are holding off action, thinking that things will be back to “normal” in a few weeks or months. At Leland Creative Marketing, we do not hold the same view and neither have our existing clients.
What we have heard is, some scientists are predicting that some form of social distancing may need to exist until 2022. That’s a long time to put any type of marketing on hold. Something to also consider is that the pandemic will have a long-term effect on the psyche and outlook of consumers and clients. In a COVID-19 study conducted by Entrepreneur Magazine, 86 percent of Americans and 81 percent of Canadians agreed that the crisis will create a new normal and will have a lasting impact on society.
Regardless of how long the crisis lasts, we believe COVID-19 will forever change themarketing landscape. Even if an effective vaccine is discovered, companies will be unable to go back to their old marketing playbooks. Marketing strategies for products and services will need to evolve due to the realities of the post-COVID-19 world.
We also know that competitors are not going to be sitting still while your business or other competitors come in looking to take more market share. If they have not done so already, they are going to be switching things up as well. Marketing a business is complicated, but when done properly your business can come into a market, stake a position, and increase market share over time.
While it’s important to recognize the uncertainties and fears surrounding COVID-19, we cannot let this crisis paralyze us. We must be proactive in monitoring changes in thebehaviors and purchasing needs of customers while the crisis is unfolding. Enabling your team to understand your customers and act based on timely insights is going to be key to navigating around and through this crisis so that both your marketing team and your company has the best chance for success.
